249TH ARMY ORDNANCE CORPS DAY CELEBRATIONS

Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) celebrated their 249th Corps Day on 08 Apr 2024.
On this momentous occasion, Lt Gen Ajai Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C, Southern Command felicitated all ranks & Def Civilians of the Army Ordnance Corps and lauded their professionalism and commitment in ensuring, very high standard of ordnance logistics support to the Indian Army.
The Army Ordnance Corps came into existence in 1775 as ‘Board of Ordnance’ and was responsible for systematic distribution of weapons, ammunition and equipment to the Army. Post its inception, the ‘Board of Ordnance’ underwent a number of transformations, till it came to be known as the Indian Army Ordnance Corps in 1922. The prefix ‘Indian’ was dropped in 1950, once India became a Republic. The organisation is now referred to as the ‘Army Ordnance Corps’ and is responsible for equipment, spares and ammunition logistics support to the Indian Army.
